Flock – You Are Lost without It!

If you have never use or heard of Flock then you are missing out on one of the best tools you can have for Social Networking or Internet Marketing. The Flock Social Web Browser is the sister browser to Firefox. They were created by the same developers and I love them both. Now if you are easily distracted then this may not be the browser for you, because you can do a lot simultaneously. But if you are someone that needs to do a lot of multitasking thing this is just the browser for you.

As you can see by the video there is a lot that you can do with this browser. And if you loved Firefox because of its plugins and add-ons then guess what…a lot of them will work with Flock as well. In fact, when you install Flock you are given the option to import the plugins and add-ons that you are currently using with your Firefox browser.

Your Networking Skills Are Horrible

In public, most people are not comfortable enough to just walk up and start talking to some random stranger. Can you remember the last time you did something like that? You probably can’t, and if you can then it probably doesn’t happen often. Guess what…you have to do something about that because every good business man or woman has to learn how to network. Networking is what grows businesses, builds healthy business relationships, and helps you to be a better professional.

DON’T TALK TO STRANGERS

We were all taught this valuable less when we were little and our parents wanted to protect us from all the bad people in the world. But as an adult, socializing and networking with new people can bring about great opportunities. Regardless of what type of business you have, you have to learn how to deal with meeting new people and make connections if you don’t want to miss out on valuable opportunities.

If you attend gatherings where you might have to do a little bit of networking on your own, get to know a few people that share your interests. Now I am not saying that you have to go out and meet everybody at the event, but select maybe 2 or 3 and go from there.

When engaging into conversations with the people you meet, you should remember that you don’t have to wait for them to start a conversation. You could simply start out by asking basic questions about what a person does, or the name of their business, etc. and you would be surprise where that conversation can end up. Showing an interest in what another person does is a perfect start.

NO FORMAL INTRODUCTIONS

Have you ever been to a party with a friend and that friend introduces you to his/her friends? Its pretty easy, huh? They do all the work for you and all you really have to say is “nice to meet you.” Now imagine if your friend was not at the party and you didn’t know anyone. Are you just going to hide in a corner for the rest of the night?

You have to learn how you do your own formal introductions. I promise if you walk up to a person and introduce yourself they won’t bite you! If you continue to wait around for other people to do things for you, you are not going to get anywhere. Now I know that this may sound corny, but before you go out to social outings prepare an introduction for yourself. You want to pretty much let people know who you are, why you are attending the social event, and you may even want to share some things about your business.

FEARING THAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT LIKE YOU

The cure to this issue is confidence. You have to have confidence in yourself and what you stand for. Lack of confidence will show even if you think you disguise it well. You have to understand that meeting new people should never be a threat to you, but lack of confidence will turn that around. Just be yourself and you will be fine. Even if you have the rare occasion where someone doesn’t like you just politely smile and walk away.

IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU

Like I mentioned before, showing interest in other people is what you should be focused on. Once you begin showing interest in others, they will begin showing interest in you. In my experience, this has been quite contagious.

These are some common problems that people have when it comes to networking, and they are not hard to fix. Once you get use to being around people and networking it becomes natural to you. If you find that your networking needs a little work then pace yourself and gradually make new connections that will benefit both you and your business.

Myspace Could Be Hurting Your Leads & Conversions

Did you know that some people feel that it is unprofessional to advertise or promote on Myspace? Well, there are a lot of people that feel like that, even professionals. But in all honesty, I can see where people would get that type of impression.

For those of you that are using Myspace or were using Myspace, at one time before Facebook and Twitter took the spotlight, then you know that Myspace is a pretty laid-back community. In fact, it may be a little too laid back. It is a great social atmosphere for the younger crowds, but sometimes it doesn’t work very well for business professionals.

The thing about Myspace is it is very relaxed when it comes to the rules and regulations of what can be posted on Myspace pages. People can get away with posting inappropriate photos and leaving inappropriate comments on pages.

Now let’s say you created a company image on Myspace, but you are getting inappropriate comments on your page. Your prospects are going to look at things like this and move along to someone else. Let’s face it people can be very judgmental, even when things like this are not your fault. But regardless of the fact it does you a lot more damage than good.

Now I don’t know about you, but I get a more professional vibe from Facebook and Twitter than I do Myspace. And since I use social networking websites for mostly business I have pretty much eliminated Myspace.

Social Networking – Connecting with Your Xbox 360

That’s right! Access to your favorite social networks through your Xbox 360 is coming very soon. How cool is that? Back in August social networking applications were suppose to be apart of a software update, but the release was postponed until fall. But nonetheless, its coming! Check out the original article here.

I am excited for the release and I don’t even have an Xbox 360, but I am a gamer. I guess the real reason why I am excited about this is because I love to see technology evolve. I love seeing technology improving their features and ultimately making life easier for us.

Now after reading “Hands-on: Social networking on Xbox 360″ I understand that a couple of the applications have actually been tested and are limited compared to accessing social networks from your computer. Well that can definitely be expected with any new technology that they haven’t worked all the kinks out of yet.

This article made me think in terms of where technology in our society is headed. I mean, let me be honest I am connected to the Internet 24 hours, 7 days a week. After I get up from my computer, I’m messing with the Internet on my phone. And when I don’t have my phone I am on the Internet with my PSP (yes, I’m an Internet junkie lol). I wonder if these new developments will eventually turn society into Internet junkies.

Facebook’s Customer Service is in an Uproar!

According to an article I read on ABCNews titled “Facebook’s mounting customer service crisis” things are getting out of hand with their customer service. There was an ongoing issue with people not being able log into their accounts (I’m glad it wasn’t me) and it sort of got out of control. That’s what happens when you turn people into social networking junkie!

But on a serious note, I understand how frustrating that could have been for the Facebook users. Now personally it wouldn’t have been serious enough for me to bite somebody’s head off, but I would have been a little frustrated. The problem that I have with this is the fact that Facebook’s customer service made a promise that it was a technical issue and it would be fixed within 24 hours. Now I have worked in customer service before and the one thing that you don’t do is promise customers that you cannot materialize. If you really don’t know when the problem is going to be fixed, giving a time frame is the worst that you can do because unhappy customers will definitely hold you to it.

And not only that but, in the eyes of the customer Facebook committed two strikes. Strike one was the fact that they could not log into their accounts and strike two is that they didn’t follow through on their promise. In my opinion, better damage control could have been done on Facebook’s part but I think the customers when a little overboard. I mean seriously, is it going to kill you if you can’t talk to your friends for a couple of days. And most people that have friends on Facebook also have their phone number stored in their phone – so would it hurt to just pick up a phone and call?

Oh yeah, it gets better…

Someone even threatened a class action lawsuit. Are you serious! You are going to sue Facebook because you cannot log into your account. And mind you this is a free social network we are talking about. I guess they would sue for pain and suffering too, huh? Get the heck out of here!

Maybe you guys can make something clear for me. How can a person complain that social networking is no good and it does nothing for your business, but then when you ask if they are trying to communicate they say no. Uhhh…. Social Networks do not fail, but your efforts do. You cannot complain about people not communicating with you if you don’t reach out and try to communicate with them.

Here’s the bottom line…

The point of a social network is to “socialize.” Regardless of if you are using a social network for personal pleasure or business purposes you have to learn how to communicate with people. Trust me, the people on the other side of the screen are not going to jump out of your computer screen and bite you. And if you are planning to use social networks for business then you really have to learn how to communicate with people. How else do you expect to drive traffic, convert connections into paying customers, and make more money?

So if you fall into this group then here are some tips for becoming more social on social networking websites:

Don’t wait for somebody to say something to you first, you can start a conversation off.
Always respond to messages and comments as soon as possible.
Spend a couple of seconds to ask how someone’s day is going, you may get it from time to time in return.
Send get well wishes when you notice someone in your social network is sick.
Don’t forget to respond to birthday notifications, people will love the fact that you even remembered.
Just be friendly and share a joke or to.

This will not only make you a little more social on social networking sites, but they will also help you to build relationships which is what you want.

Now days you have to be extremely careful of what you are sharing on your social networking pages because hiring managers are beginning to use social networks to make hiring decisions. The things that you post on your page such as photos, videos, snide remarks, etc. can be used against you in a split second. And in all honest I don’t believe this is fair at all because you deserve a degree of privacy, but it’s like they say – “nothing is private on the Internet”

In order to communicate freely on social networks you should begin protecting your social pages by making them private. Now this can be both a good thing and a bad thing. It protects you from potential employers but it makes it hard to build your social network. A lot of times people want to see your picture or profile before requesting you as a friend and this would be a problem for them.

But nonetheless, I think that protecting your pages is the safer route to go. Or at lease use that method until you get the job. Another thing that you may want to consider is just making certain information available to people that are not on your friends list. Facebook gives you the opportunity to do this, but unfortunately there are some social networks that will not allow you to do so.
