Here’s the harsh truth – you can’t sell anything without advertising. So if you thought you could, then here is the harsh reality of selling. And this is just as true for offline selling as it is for online selling.

Regardless of what you are selling, in order to make those sales you have to create some form of advertisement to put in front of your target audience in order to produce those sales. This can be in the form of a classified ad, text ads in newsletters, a sales copy for the product, etc. And those advertisements determine the success or failure of your sales.

Before you even consider writing any type of ads you have to define your purpose. Ok, I know you of course want to make sales, but…

Step 1 – Attract the “attention” of your audience.

Without the attention of your audience you have absolutely nothing. So you have to be creative when attracting the attention of your audience. This may include using keywords that stand out in your headlines, startling facts, attractive figures, etc.

Step 2 – “Interest” your audience in the product.

You can do this by introducing the features of your product and sharing the benefits. If your audience cannot get a clear idea of why they would need your product, then they are not going to be interested in buying it.

Step 3 – Cause your audience to “desire” the product.

You want your audience to desire your product to the point where they can’t resist spending their money on it. This can be accomplished in many ways, but some things that will definitely help is including some valuable bonuses, offering the product at a discounted price, stress how your audience won’t find your product elsewhere, etc.

Step 4 – Demand “action” from your audience.

You have to demand action or no one will take action. Demanding action from your audience doesn’t mean typing in capital letters. That’s just plain annoying. But you should do is use action words and phrases that will make your audience want to buy right away.

Using these four steps as a guide to creating your advertisements will definitely point you in the right direction as far as getting those sales. And if you want to step your copywriting game up then you need to know these fundamentals.

If you are really serious about making an income with your writing skills, then I would suggest that you grab a book called Rules for Writers. I am currently working on my 3rd bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and unfortunately I have to do a lot of writing. Especially since I take online classes. Today I received my Rules for Writers book in the mail for one of my up and coming classes and  there is a lot of great stuff in it.

About a week or so ago I had a flock of people emailing me asking me how they can improve their writing skills so that they could improve their articles, blog posts, website content, info products, etc. and my answer is to grab Rules for Writers. It doesn’t just go of the basic things like spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. It also teaches you how to use the appropriate language, how to communicate with your audience, how to build credibility, etc.

Now if you can’t afford to purchase this book there are other ways you can improve your writing skills…

Check out some article directories. People from different writing level submit their work to article directories. Take a look at their writing styles and then take a look at how many people are viewing their articles. If they are getting a good response, see if they use some writing techniques that you can implement in your own writing.

Get tips from your favorite writers, copywriters, bloggers, etc. Getting tips from your favorite writers is a great way to gain knowledge from somebody who knows what they are talking about as well as improve writing skills. Being that these people have experience, they can helps you to find your strengths and weaknesses and hopefully turn those weaknesses into strengths.

Do a Google search for writing tips. There are writing tips all over the Internet that you can use to improve yourself. In fact, the Internet is my main source for keeping my writing skills up to par.

Subscribe to free writing newsletters. There are a lot of great writers that produce their own newsletters that provide tips and techniques that you can apply in your own writing. And the great thing about this is that you normally get these tips on a regular basis allowing you to work consistently on your writing skills.

Follow some professional writers on Twitter. There are a lot of great professional writers on Twitter that share writing tips on a regular basis. It would really help you out if you follow these people because you can benefit from what these professionals have to offer.

These are just some simple ways that you can improve your writing skills without having spend any money. I hope this helps you out!

Sometimes the writing process can get the best of you. It can be boring, long and drawn out, and after a while you just lose focus. Every writer goes through this from time to time, so it’s normal. But it is nerve racking isn’t it?

If you are anything like me, your memory is about five minutes long then you are turning the station on the television, checking facebook, sending a few pointless tweets, yeah I know. But I found a free software that will definitely help you with that. It is a software called DarkRoom. It is absolutely free and it will have you writing pages and pages of content in no time at all.

I had never heard of this software until last night. It is actually a word processor where the background is solid black and the text is neon green. Now I immediately thought that it was going to hurt my eyes being that I do wear contacts, but surprisingly it didn’t. In fact I was so focused on what I was typing that I had type nearly a page and a half of content in about 20 minutes.

And even better than that I found that my thoughts ran fluidly and I was even pulling myself away from looking at the television. When you maximize your window while using DarkRoom there are absolutely no distractions, just you and what you are typing. I love it. I could really write some fast content with this free word processor.

Now when you install it and use it for the first time, you are going to think that something so simple is not going to help you stay focused, but watch how long you continue typing. I also found it easy to write html code with this word processor as well as css styles. So if you are into that as well, then DarkRoom would be good help.

Curiosity is sure to get your content read regardless of what type of content you choose to create. It can be articles, reports, ebooks, blog posts, etc. It doesn’t matter. Curiosity is a strong emotion that you have to learn how to tap into when trying to get people to read and buy your content. Curiosity is not something that just up and goes away, it will nag at your readers until they find out what it is to know.

Whether  you know it or not you do a lot of things on a daily basis due to curiosity. For example, when you sign into your Facebook account you are curious as to know who has sent you a message and what people are talking about. When your partner says they are going to the store, what’s your response? “What are you going to the store for?”  And half the time you don’t have a reason for asking other than just wanting to know.

Well you have to create that atmosphere for your readers. Making them feel like they want to know more after reading your headlines, sales copies, advertisements, etc. is going to drive more traffic you can handle. What will really set this technique off is writing about topics that the average person has questions or concerns about. Or even better than that, address common problems that people are seeking the solutions to.

Now go out there and work those headlines for more traffic and moolah!

If you are promoting affiliate links within your articles or even a blog then it can be definitely considered an art, because without the right placement you will be basking in the glow of disappointment.

Before getting started you will want to make sure that the products that you are promoting are related to the content in your article, because if not you will be doomed from the door. That’s like me asking you for information about blogging and you tell me something about losing weight. That has nothing to do with what I am looking for and it won’t keep me around.

Now I have had the best results with plain text links and I have had the worst luck with banners. But that doesn’t mean that it will work out the same for you. You have to do a little trial and error at this point to see which types of links will work best for you.

Once you get that squared away, then you can start working on the placement of your affiliate links. Now you want to definitely make sure that your links are within your reader’s vision, meaning you don’t want to place them too far to the top or bottom of your articles.

The things about words is that they have an power that a lot of people have yet to learn how to use. Words can evoke emotion in a person, persuade a person’s opinion or decision making,, and can even result in a sale. If that’s not power then I don’t know what is!

Here are some power words that you should use in your sales copy:

1. Secret(s) – who doesn’t like secrets? This word makes your customers feel like they are about to learn something that no one else knows, which plays on their curiosity.

2. Discover - gives your readers the feeling that they are about to get information that other people haven’t had a chance to get yet.

3. Guarantee - gives your customer the security in knowing that they have protection if a product turns out to be not as expected.

4. Profits/Money/Cash – are words that translate into the thought of money that your customer can put into their pocket.

5. Instantly/Quick/Fast- people don’t like to wait to get the information or product that they are seeking and these words will attract customers fast.

6. Easy – people don’t like things that take a lot of work on their part, so if you can provide an easy way for them to do something, then they are on it!

7. Free - do I really have to explain this one???

8. New – people are always interested in learning something new because they want to keep up with the trends.

9. Risk Free – people are scared of risks and reminding them that they are doing something risk free gives them sense of security.

10. Exposed – is a word that gives people the impression that they are about learn something that they are not supposed to know, which is always attractive to people.

11. Step-by-Step – this is appealing to customers because this means that the customer is going to receive thorough directions on how to do whatever it is that they are looking to do, and not being left hanging.

12. Unconditional – is a word that is usually partnered up with guarantee, and this relays that the customer is going to receive the guarantee without condition loopholes.

13. Critical – this word gives customers a sense of importance, urgency and demands action.

14. Professional - this word conveys the quality of a product or information, and quality is very important to customers.

15. Proven – this word tells a customer that the information or product they are getting has been tested and actually works.

This is a list of some power words that have worked for me, although there are tons out there.
